My friend Jess put out a post sharing that today is self injury awareness day. It has been 2 years since I have stopped cutting myself after a 9 year struggle. For those 9 years each day was just another to send me over the edge. It was a way of punishing myself. For being fat, lazy, sad, angry, failing at something, or just general disappointment in how I handled things in my life. For some it is the same, a punishment. Or it can be a release for pain from their inside out. It can be a cry for help. The pain may have been the one thing they could control. Whatever the reason, whatever the way you cause pain to yourself, you are not alone. I wish that everyone finds the support and love they need to overcome their demons. One day, you too can say that it has been x time since I hurt myself. It starts with a day, a week, a month. Hopefully you can come to a point and look back, where it has been years.

Funnily enough, it was meeting Hugo that saved me. He has been the only S.O. where I feel comfortable enough that I can run to him when I felt the urge. He has been a savior that I have never felt angry at or upset about things he has done. We have rarely been apart, and for me it was this love that gave me courage. His acceptance of all my faults has made me learn to accept me for who I am.
